What does the assessment process involve?
We will meet with you on 2-3 occasions to complete a clinical interview and assessment.
We use the ADOS-2, currently recognised as the gold standard Autism assessment tool globally, in combination thorough clinical interview and completion of other relevant questionnaires.
We are mindful that, historically, measures of Autism have not been sensitive to the female autistic presentation and find that a thorough clinical interview supports in diagnosis of women whose symptoms may have been missed earlier in life.
Following completion of the assessment we write a report and meet with you to discuss the feedback.
Why is an assessment important?
Undergoing an Adult Autism Assessment is important for several reasons:
Self-Understanding -It helps individuals understand their behaviours, challenges and strengths, leading to greater self acceptance
Access to support- a diagnosis can provide access to therapies, workplace accommodations and social support services.
Mental Health Benefits-It can clarify co-exiting conditions like anxiety or depression and lead to more effective treatment.
Improved relationships-Understanding one's neurodiversity can enhance communication and relationships with family, friends and colleagues.
Career and Life Planning-A diagnosis can help individuals navigate work environments and daily life with strategies tailored to their needs.
Overall, an assessment can empower you by providing validation and opening doors to resources that improve your quality of life
