What does the assessment process involve?
Parent consultation: We meet with you as parents to gain a clear understanding of your child’s strengths and challenges, and your concerns.
Child consultation: We use the ADOS-2, currently recognised as the gold standard Autism assessment tool globally.
Additional questionnaires may be completed by parents, a teacher, and where appropriate the young person.
A report is written and we will meet to discuss the results. We can also speak through telling your child about the diagnosis.
Cognitive and academic assessments are also available in some office locations.
Why is an assessment important?
Undergoing a Child Autism Assessment is important because:
Early Intervention – A diagnosis allows access to therapies and support that can improve communication, social skills, and learning outcomes.
Tailored Support – It helps you as parents, teachers, and caregivers understand your child's needs and provide appropriate accommodations.
Educational Planning – Schools can implement individualized education plans (IEPs) or special accommodations to support learning.
Emotional Well-Being – Understanding your child's challenges can reduce frustration and anxiety for both your child and family.
Future Success – Early diagnosis and support can help children develop skills to navigate life more effectively as they grow.
An assessment ensures children receive the help they need to reach their full potential.
