Impact of Sleep Problems
Lack of sleep can lead to difficulties in mood regulation, concentration, cognition (thinking), plus fatigue and tiredness. Sleeplessness can be stressful and unpleasant. Insomnia is a chronic inability to sleep; most people with insomnia do sleep but feel that they did not get enough sleep, or that their sleep had too many disruptions.
Common Causes of Sleep Disruption
Things that impact our sleep include anxiety, stress, caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, pain or discomfort, environment, noise, or medications.
Improving Sleep
There are some lifestyle tips for improving sleep, such as reducing caffeine, alcohol and nicotine intake. Or we may need to reduce noise and disruptions in our environment. Regular exercise also helps with sleep. If sleep disturbance persists, we recommend seeing your GP and booking with one of our clinicians to discuss strategies suited to your situation.
